Similar to sauna, but with moist heat instead of dry, steam bath not only relaxes you and renews your energy, but also promotes your health and beauty.
It is highly beneficial for the skin, a feature particularly appreciated by women. Heat from the steam causes the heart to beat faster and harder in an attempt to cool the body, causing blood to flow to even the smallest capillaries. Increased blood flow to these tiny capillaries under the skin surface causes the skin to glow and look healthy because the blood cells carry minerals, vitamins and oxygen. The moist heat also cleanses the skin intensively by opening the pores to remove dead skin and toxins, leaving dry skin feeling soft, clean and silky smooth.
Steam bath also boosts the immune system by increasing the body temperature to above 37.2°C. This helps to inhibit the multiplication of or kill the viruses in our body. The increased temperature also triggers the body to release white blood cells and antibodies which help to defend the body against infectious diseases and foreign materials.
The high moisture content in a steam room is especially good for respiratory problems such as bronchial asthma, bronchitis, catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, coughs and hoarseness. This is because the high concentration of steam can help to open up the airways, clear allergens and mucus from your lungs and relieve the congestion of upper respiratory mucous membranes.
Heat from the steam also relaxes stiff muscles as it widens blood vessels to allow more oxygen flow thus releasing their tension. This helps the whole body to relax by taking away stress and soothing the mind and soul.
